Glossary labels
Adhesive
A substance such as glue that provides adhesion of 2 surfaces.
In the Label industry, adhesives are devices that are sensitive to pressure.
An adhesive may be fusible (thermo-bonding) or self adhesive that sticks to it-self (as in envelopes).
Backing
It is a non-adhesive backing of a Label. It is used to carry Labels during production and to protect the glue on it before application.
Cutting tool
Plate with sharp edges for cutting the Labels into a desired shape.
Direction or height
Direction of travel of the label tape also shows the height of the label.
Double coating label
This label is composed of a front / adhesive / protective silicone / adhesive / protective silicone. It is commonly used for tracking and tracing. A part of it will remain on the product while the other part (the printed label) will come off and repositioned elsewhere.
Merely, it's a label on a another label. We takes off a label which is repositionable on a elsewhere. It sticks, and takes off and glue another time easily.
Face material
Top layer of the label (paper, film, plastic).
Fluorescent Ink
A range of inks which can be printed in either visible or invisible forms and which can color when subjected to shortwave light or longwave light.
Availability of pigments for fraud protection is strictly controlled to preserve the authenticity of such inks.
To push important informations we have a fluorescent label.
Hologram
A microscopically fine diffractive structure by which three-dimensional images are generated.
The intrinsic security of holograms is captures within the origination process as they are difficult to manufacture and lasers are required for the actual recording of the holograms images
Holograms provide powerful visual appeal as well as prestige and anti-counterfeiting, brand protection properties.
We create a custom hologram label.
Ink
The black and colored inks used in the various label printing processes. The colored inks used for process printing are frequently cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
Intelligent/smart labels
Intelligent or smart labels and packaging solutions go beyond conventional label or pack applications so as to provide a whole range of clever solutions in the manufacturing, distribution, sales, end-use or after-use chain and provide functions other than the standard tasks of protection, display or information carrying.
Many intelligent or smart label solutions may be automatically read-some remotely, some can be activated in response to a trigger event, some can be switched on and off in response to certain conditions and some have the capability to have information added to them.
Mandrel or core
the paper (or even plastic) tube on which the printed labels are delivered. Conventionally, it has a dimension of 76mm or 3 inches.
Non transfer VOID label
Void without trace, or Void without transfer of a trace or message (FRAUD OPEN ...) when it is removed (not on the medium on which it was glued).
Permanent adhesive
An adhesive which has a high ultimate adhesion, which usually cannot be removed intact or only with enough force to overcome the adhesive bond- in which the label, may be damaged.
Printing plate
It is an embossed rubber plate that will transfer ink onto the Label.
Registered VOID or tamper evident label
When a VOID mark or tamper evident is noticed, it is said to be a VOID registry.
Release liner or backing
The silicone-coated base material used to facilitate release of the adhesive coated face while converting labels.
Removable adhesive
A pressure-sensitive adhesive which, when it has been applied to a specified surface, may be easily removed at a later date. A pressure-sensitive adhesive displaying relatively low final adhesion.
Although it adheres firmly to the substrate, it can be removed again for quite a long period of time. Ease of removal depends on the nature of the substrate, the ambient conditions at the time of application and the environmental conditions during the service life of the label.
Repositionable adhesive
Adhesive that allows removal and refitting several times.
RFID
A method of electronically identifying unique items at a distance without a line of sight using radio waves.
In RFID systems a reader will typically communicate with a tag, which holds digital information in a microchip.
An RFID system basically consists of three seperate components - an antenna or coil, a tranceiver and a transponder that is electronically programmed with unique information. The antenna sends out radio signals to active the tag and read ir or write do to it.
Here an exemple of one of our RFID label.
Silicone adhesive
Silicone adhesive compounds have a remarkable stability through a very wide range of temperatures. Silicone adhesives can be bonded to difficult surfaces and have outstanding high and low temperature performance. They are also higly resistant to oxidation, ozone.
Thanks to this adhesive we create a label which is able to stick on any kind of surfaces even on difficults surfaces.
Substrate
It is the process of removing the material around and between the Labels after cutting.
Tamper evident label, void label
A void Label is used primarily as a security Label. It helps to seal all kinds of containers and serves as a witness of tampering or fraud if it is removed from its carrier.
The removed Label leaves a characterized mark on the medium on which it was glued (custom type text, logo, checkered ...) and on the Label itself, making it impossible to reposition properly. It is said to reveal Label removal.
The Void label is a deterrent against fraud and serves guarantees the product on which it is bonded.
Thermochromic
Thermochromic inks are inks that change color with changer un temperature. They are available in two main types; reversible dans irreversible. Reversible thermochromic inks are generally used to show when the tempature of a pack or label has reached an optimum level. For example, when the temperature of a beverage is at the appropriate level and ready to serve the thermochromic ink label will change from white to blue. When the product warms up the message will disappear.
Water-soluble
Water-soluble means the product which dissolves into water and aqueous environnement.
We make water-soluble label
Weeding
It is the process of removing the material around and between the Labels after cutting.
Width
Width of the Label strip, in the direction perpendicular to coil. Note that printing may not be in the same direction.
